Can I have a different price for each customer in Shopify?

Short answer: By customer tier, yes, and without Shopify Plus: up to three active B2B catalogs each with their own price list. A negotiated price account by account, natively, needs Shopify Plus, because it is the only plan that can assign a catalog directly to a company or one of its locations.

The question before the question

Before deciding whether you need per-account pricing, count your real price lists, with last year’s orders in front of you rather than the sales PDF. I have seen lists of eight tiers that, once the orders were checked, were two and one exception.

If the count comes to three or fewer, you fit on a plan without Plus and the conversation ends here.

What a catalog gives you without Plus

Three active catalogs, counting all B2B markets together. Inside each one:

  • A fixed price per variant or a percentage off the whole price list.
  • Quantity rules: minimums, maximums and increments.
  • Volume pricing: the price drops past X units.

That last one solves more cases than it looks. When somebody asks for a fourth catalog because “this customer buys much more”, they are almost always describing a different quantity, not a different price. And a volume break has the side benefit of showing the buyer the incentive to move up a step.

The wall, and how it shows up

Without Plus, a catalog is not assigned to a company: it is assigned to a B2B market and the companies in that market inherit it. That has a consequence worth drawing on a whiteboard before choosing a plan: your price segmentation has to match your geographic segmentation.

If your tiers are “wholesale Spain”, “wholesale Portugal” and “distributor”, all three are spent and there is no room for key accounts.

The alternatives if you do not want Plus

In order of the technical debt they leave: arrange the three catalogs as three clean tiers and move each company into the market it belongs to; use volume breaks for the differences that are really about quantity; and, if per-account discounts are genuinely required, a public App Store app. What is not an option without Plus is a Function written for your store with your own discount rules.
