Quick order

Quick order is the table where a wholesale buyer enters quantities for many SKUs at once and sends them to the cart in a single operation. It is not a Shopify feature but a front-end pattern, and it is what separates a usable B2B portal from a good-looking catalog.

Also called: order pad, order form, bulk order table, SKU ordering

A B2C buyer compares and chooses. A B2B buyer already knows what they want and needs to type it fast. That difference is the whole design of the portal.

The mistake that breaks half the implementations

A table with 40 SKUs and a quantity box per row invites one request per line. Forty requests in a row do two bad things: the cart flashes forty times and, worse, the last response can land before the first, so the total the buyer sees is not the total they have.

The Cart API accepts an object with several lines at once, and it hands back the rendered HTML of the sections that need repainting. One request, one state, one repaint.

Absolute quantities, not increments

The second detail that saves support tickets: send the total quantity of each line, not “add 3”. With absolute quantities, a first order, a top-up and a correction are exactly the same request, and a rejected line leaves the cart as it was.

What cannot be left out

  • SKU search, because that is how a professional buyer searches, not by product name.
  • Stock per row, because ordering what is not there is complaint number one.
  • Quantity rules applied to the field itself, with min and step.
  • Staying in sync with the rest of the theme: the same variant has to show the same quantity on the product page, in the listing and in search.

The full pattern, rebuilt on Dawn with no client code in it, is in shopify-b2b-order-portal.
